The winner of the Atorox Award for the best science fiction or fantasy short story will be announced in Virtual Finncon on 10.-12.7.2020. This will be the first time that the Atorox will be given out virtually.

The Atorox Award is given to the best Finnish science fiction or fantasy short story that was published during the previous calendar year. The winner is decided by a public vote from a list of nominees formed by jury and fandom votes. The Atorox Award was first given out in 1983 and is named after the Atorox character created by Aarne "Outsider" Haapakoski.

The results of the Nova writing competition will be also announced in Virtual Finncon

As it is the tradition, the results of the Nova writing competition will be announced at the same time as the winner of the Atorox Award. Nova is organized by Turku Science Fiction Society, Science culture cabinet of the University of Turku, and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Finland and is a writing competition with a feedback format.

We will be organizing a small-scale virtual Finncon on July 10-12 2020. The program for this Virtual Finncon will be organized during summer 2020, and the program team will be in touch with some of the program volunteers about this soon. The aim of the virtual Finncon is to showcase current topics in speculative fiction, in literature and other forms of media. There will also be a virtual Artists’ Alley.
